Aliens Boardgame: New Room And Sentry Cards

I already posted my recreation of the default Room and Sentry cards from Leading Edge’s Aliens Boardgame here. This entry is my attempt to add new cards for use with the game.

These cards were designed mainly with the idea that they would be used on custom maps or tilesets adapted from other games (Space Crusade, Hero Quest, Space Hulk, Doom, Endure the Stars, Star Saga or even Zombicide could all work, IMO). Using them with the existing Scenarios and maps will increase the difficulty greatly, and is not recommended without increasing the players’ forces to match.

New Decks:

My new card decks are as follows…

  • New Room Deck
    • x4 Alien cards
    • x3 2 Aliens cards
    • x2 3 Aliens cards
    • x1 4 Aliens cards
    • x1 Queen card
    • x2 Facehugger cards
    • x2 Eggs cards
    • x3 Empty cards
    • x1 Cocooned card
    • x1 Survivor card

= 20 cards total

  • New Sentry Deck
    • x4 Alien cards
    • x2 2 Aliens cards
    • x1 3 Aliens card
    • x3 Empty cards

= 10 cards total

Using The New Room Deck:

  1. Follow any Scenario-specific Room Card rules, such as setting aside the Queen or Cocooned cards before creating the deck.
  2. Shuffle the remaining Room Cards.
  3. Count out the number of rooms on the Map you are using, minus the Room Cards previously set aside.
  4. Randomly draw that many Room Cards – face down without looking at them – from the shuffled deck.
  5. Add any Room Cards you previously set aside (e.g. Queen) and shuffle.
  6. Set aside the unused Room Cards; you won’t need these any more.
  7. You now have a randomized Room Card deck to use.
  8. Remember that when a Room Card is drawn, it is not returned to the deck.

Note that playing the original Scenarios with the new Room Deck will make the game a *lot* harder; it is recommended that you use the standard decks with those Scenarios. This deck is designed to be used on custom scenarios and maps with more rooms.

Using The New Sentry Deck:

  1. Unless the Scenario instructs, remove all but 3 Empty and 7 Alien cards from the Sentry Deck. Shuffle the remaining deck.
  2. When the Scenario instructs you to draw a Sentry Card, do so from this new deck.

You can use the new Sentry deck with the original Scenarios, but doing so will make the game a *lot* harder; it is recommended that you use the standard decks with those Scenarios and keep my expanded decks for use with custom scenarios and maps.

Card Descriptions:

ALIEN / 2 ALIENS / 3 ALIENS / 4 ALIENS
Roll and place each Alien.
Treat 0 as a Bonus Bug if that rule is being used, adding an additional Alien.

FACEHUGGER
Roll and place a Facehugger here.
Treat 0 as a Bonus Bug if that rule is being used, adding an additional Facehugger.

QUEEN
The Queen’s hive is in this room!
Roll and place Queen, along with 2 Aliens.
Treat 0 as a Bonus Bug if that rule is being used, adding an additional Alien (not Queen).

EGGS
There is a cluster of Eggs here.
Roll D10 for how many Eggs, then roll for each and place.
Treat 0 as a Bonus Bug, but add an Alien instead of an extra Egg.
Any turn where a Marine moves through or is adjacent to an Egg, roll 1D10: on a 0-2, the Egg opens and should be replaced with a Facehugger.

EMPTY
Nothing is here.

COCOONED
A survivor is cocooned here. Roll to place them.
If any Marines were Grabbed and dragged away in a previous scenario (i.e. you are playing concurrent scenarios such as the Movie Scenario) then randomly pick one of these as the cocooned Marine. If not, draw a random character card from the unused ones and a player with no – or the least – Marines left takes control of them (if all equal, player who found them takes control).
Unless the Scenario specifies a different rule for impregnation (e.g. Marine Rescue), roll 1D10: on a 0-2, they are already Impregnated.
A Marine who spends one full turn adjacent to a Cocooned victim (without taking any Actions) may break them free.
Freed Marines are Wounded and unarmed, but may be given a weapon by their rescuers as per normal weapon swapping rules.
See “Impregnated Marines” for rules on using a Marine who is already Impregnated with an Alien before they are rescued.

SURVIVOR
A survivor is hiding here, armed with the first weapon on their card.
Draw a character card from the unused ones to randomly determine the survivor’s identity.
A player with no – or the least – Marines left takes control of them (if all equal, player who found them takes control).

Note: I have tried to keep the dimensions of these cards as close to the originals as possible; hopefully, printing them will result in a close match, but please let me know if not.
